Life Summary
Hur Kyung-soo is chairman and CEO of Cosmo & Company. He also serves as chairman of Cosmo Advanced Materials and Cosmo Chemical.
He was born on January 1, 1957, in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, as the eldest of two sons and two daughters of Hur Shin-koo, honorary chairman of GS Retail.
He graduated from Korea University with a degree in business administration.
He worked in trade and global operations at LG International and LG Electronics.
He took with him a 100% stake in Cosmo & Company, which had been run by his father, and successively acquired workout-bound Korea Titanium Industry, now Cosmo Chemical, and Saehan Media, now Cosmo Advanced Materials. He then formed the Cosmo business group and left GS in 2015 to pursue independent management.
As a third-generation business leader from the extended GS family, he has been recognized for boldly transforming a traditional materials company into a group specializing in advanced materials, including secondary-battery materials.
He is a grandson of Hur Man-jung, co-founder of Lucky Chemical Industrial, the predecessor of LG Group, and a cousin of GS Group Chairman Huh Tae-soo.
