Life Summary

Ryu Jin is the chairman of Poongsan Group. He also serves as chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI).

He was born on March 5, 1958, in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, as the son of Ryu Chan-woo, the late former chairman and founder of Poongsan Group.

He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in English language and literature and completed an MBA program at Dartmouth College in the United States.

He joined Poongsan Metal Corporation and received management training for more than 10 years before being appointed president and CEO of Poongsan in 1996.

Following the death of former chairman Ryu Chan-woo, he succeeded him as chairman in 2000.

Known for his sophisticated international outlook and extensive networks in political and business circles, he is regarded as “a leader who wields influence far greater than the size of his company, which is a mid-sized enterprise.”

He faces the burden of resolving Poongsan’s internal succession issues, improving transparency in its governance structure, and reforming the FKI.
