Lee Kang-young is the director of Severance Hospital.
He is focusing on shifting the hospital’s system into one centered on specialists and severe, highly complex treatment.
He was born in 1967.
He graduated from Kyungmoon High School in Seoul and Yonsei University College of Medicine. He earned a master’s degree in medicine from Yonsei University Graduate School and a doctorate in pathology from Korea University Graduate School.
After completing his internship and residency training at Yonsei University Severance Hospital, he worked as a researcher at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, the United States.
In 2003, he was appointed to the Department of Surgery at Yonsei University College of Medicine.
He served as head of the Colorectal Cancer Clinic team at Gangnam Severance Hospital and as head of the Quality Improvement Office at Severance Hospital. As head of planning and coordination at Yonsei University Health System and head of the Future Strategy Office and Long-Term Business Division, he has drawn up blueprints for the hospital’s current operations and future management strategies.
In April 2024, he was appointed director of Severance Hospital.
He is regarded as a pioneer in robotic surgery for colorectal cancer in Korea.
He serves as chairman of the Korean Surgical Society.
