Lee Keun-bae is the president of Chonnam National University.

He was born on December 6, 1963.

He graduated from Chonnam National University Medical School and earned a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in medicine from Chonnam National University Graduate School.

He joined Chonnam National University Medical School as a professor of orthopedic surgery and served as head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Chonnam National University Hospital and director of the Biomedical Research Institute.

He served as chair of the Chonnam National University Faculty Senate and chair of the faculty council, and was elected president in the 2025 direct election.

He aims to help the university become a world-class research-oriented university through educational innovation. With its selection as a Glocal University as an opportunity, he is also working to create settlement conditions so that talented AI-based professionals can contribute to regional development.

He has served as chair of the Federation of Professors’ Associations of Flagship National Universities, executive chair of the Honam-Jeju Federation of Professors’ Associations of National and Public Universities, vice president of the Asia-Pacific Foot and Ankle Society, president of the Korean Fracture Society, president of the Korean Foot and Ankle Society, and president of the Korean Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

He is a full member of the National Academy of Medicine of Korea and is regarded as an authority in the treatment of foot fractures in Korea.
