Life Summary

Chung Mong-jin is the CEO and Chairman of KCC.

He shares management responsibilities with President Jung Jae-hoon, a professional manager, under a joint CEO system.

Since acquiring Momentive, he has focused on developing the silicone business as KCC’s future growth engine.

He was born on August 5, 1960, in Seoul, as the eldest son of KCC Honorary Chairman Chung Sang-young, who is the youngest brother of Hyundai Group Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-young.

He graduated from Yongsan High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Korea University. He later received a master’s degree in International Economics from the George Washington University School of Business in the United States.

In 1991, he joined Korea Chemical as a director and began participating in group management. He served as executive director of Korea Chemical and CEO of the Singapore branch before being promoted to Vice Chairman in 1998.

After Kumkang and Korea Chemical merged to form Kumkang Korea Chemical, he took over full management control and became Chairman of the company.

Since 2005, he has served as the CEO of KCC.

He is known for his strong foreign language skills and sharp investment insight.

He is regarded as a cautious leader who “never enters a business he doesn’t fully understand and carefully reviews new ventures for an average of five to seven years before pursuing them.”
