Life Summary

Kang Hoon-sik is the first Chief Presidential Secretary of President Lee Jae-myung’s administration.

He is leading the Presidential Secretariat, supporting President Lee Jae-myung in managing national affairs. Kang is focusing his efforts on the administration's key goals, namely ending internal conflict and reviving the people's economy.

He was born on October 24, 1973, in Onyang-eup, Asan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, as the eldest son among two siblings.

He graduated from Myeongseok High School in Daejeon and earned a degree in Management Information Systems from Konkuk University.

During university, Kang served as president of the Konkuk University Student Union, actively participating in student movements including opposition to amendments in education reform laws. In 2000, he founded a clothing company, gaining experience as an entrepreneur.

In 2004, he entered politics after being recruited by Sohn Hak-kyu, then Governor of Gyeonggi Province. In 2008, at age 34, he ran unsuccessfully in the 18th National Assembly election.

After three attempts, he was elected to the 20th National Assembly representing Asan-si (Eul district) in 2016, and was re-elected in the same district in 2020, serving as a two-term lawmaker.

In 2022, Kang ran for the position of party chairman but withdrew two weeks prior to the party convention.

In 2024, he secured a third consecutive term in his constituency, Asan-si (Eul).

In April 2025, he served as Chief of the Central Election Situation Room for the Democratic Party’s campaign in the 21st presidential election.

In June 2025, Kang was appointed Chief Presidential Secretary by President Lee Jae-myung.
