Life Summary

Chung Yong-jin is the chairman of Shinsegae Group.

He is responsible for E-Mart, one of the two main pillars of Shinsegae Group, alongside Shinsegae itself. He leads the hypermarket business, including supermarkets, convenience stores, specialty stores, hotels, and complex shopping malls. He has assumed the role of the group's head in place of his mother, Lee Myung-hee, the group’s chairperson.

Born on September 19, 1968, as the eldest son among two children of Jeong Jae-eun, the former honorary chairman of Shinsegae, and Lee Myung-hee, the chairperson of Shinsegae Group, he has a younger sister, Jeong Yu-kyung, the current chairman of Shinsegae.

He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Western History and later obtained a degree in Economics from Brown University in the United States.

Chung started his career at Korea Fujitsu.

After joining Shinsegae as a director in the Strategy Planning Team in the Strategy Planning Office, he was promoted to Executive Director of the Planning and Coordination Office, Vice President of the Management Support Office, and later Vice Chairman. He was appointed as the CEO of Shinsegae in 2010. The following year, he was also appointed CEO of E-Mart. In 2013, he stepped down from both CEO positions and remained as Vice Chairman.

In March 2024, he became the chairman of Shinsegae Group.

With his younger sister, Jeong Yu-kyung, leading the department store and fashion businesses and pushing for independence, Chung is focusing on the group's separation process.
