Chung held key roles, including head of the Support Team in the Wireless Business Division and head of the Digital Imaging Business Division at Samsung Electronics. He later served as head of the Management Diagnosis Team and the HR Team within the Future Strategy Office.
After the dissolution of the Future Strategy Office—an event for which he took responsibility and stepped down—he returned later that year as head of the Business Support TF at Samsung Electronics.
He came under pressure amid growing allegations that the Samsung Electronics Business Support TF had directed the concealment of evidence related to the Samsung Biologics accounting fraud scandal just before the prosecution’s investigation.
He is a finance expert and strategic planning specialist known for enjoying the deep trust of Samsung’s owner family, including Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
He is often regarded as the “No. 2 man” in the Samsung Group, following in the footsteps of former Strategy Planning Office Vice Chairman Lee Hak-soo and former Future Strategy Office Vice Chairman Choi Ji-sung.
