Chang Jong-hyun is the president of Baekseok University.
He has served as president for 26 years, including during the university’s earlier periods as Cheonan College of Foreign Studies and Cheonan University.
He was born on August 19, 1949, in Asan, South Chungcheong Province.
He graduated from Cheonan High School and earned a degree in English Language and Literature from Dankook University. He later received a Ph.D. in Public Administration from the Graduate School of Dankook University.
He founded Chongsin Academy (now the Baekseok Educational Foundation) and went on to establish Cheonan College of Foreign Studies (now Baekseok Arts University) and Cheonan University (now Baekseok University), serving as both dean and president.
He was sentenced to three years in prison for embezzlement but was released after six months through a special pardon on Liberation Day in 2016.
He returned as president of Baekseok Arts University and was reappointed president of Baekseok University in 2017.
He has served as moderator of the DaeShin General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Korea and, after founding the Baekseok denomination (PCK Baekseok), now serves as president of the United Christian Churches of Korea.
