After serving as Chairman of the Gyeongsangnam-do Economic Innovation Promotion Committee, he joined the Financial Supervisory Service as Senior Deputy Governor and later served as Acting Governor.

In 2025, he was appointed CEO and Chairman of NongHyup Financial Group.

Since the establishment of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, he was the longest-serving Vice Minister and played a key role in shaping the early economic policies of the Moon Jae-in administration.
