He began his career at the Industrial Bank of Korea. He then moved to Shinhan Bank, where he served as Deputy Manager in the Credit Review Department and Team Leader in the Treasury Department.

While serving as the branch manager of the Osaka Branch in Japan, he led the launch of SBJ Bank, Shinhan Bank's Japanese subsidiary, and later served as Vice President and President of SBJ Bank.

He held positions such as Vice President in charge of Shinhan Bank's Management Support Group, Vice President of Shinhan Financial Group's Operations Division, and President of Shinhan Bank before being appointed CEO and Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group in 2023.

He is known for his gentle and unpretentious personality. He values horizontal communication and leads by example.
