Lee is the third son among six children (three sons and three daughters) of Lee Hoe-rim, the founder of Dongyang Chemical Industrial (now OCI Group). His older brothers include the late Lee Soo-young, former Chairman of OCI, and Lee Bok-young, Chairman of Samkwang Glass.
