Kim Dong-yeon is the Governor of Gyeonggi-do.

He passed the 6th Legislative Examination and the 26th Administrative Examination, starting his public service career in the Economic Planning Bureau of the Economic Planning Board. He mainly worked in the Ministry of Planning and Budget and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
During the Roh Moo-hyun administration, he was in charge of drafting 'Vision 2030.' After serving as the Minister of Government Policy Coordination under the Park Geun-hye administration, he became the President of Ajou University.
He was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance under the Moon Jae-in administration.
After stepping down as Deputy Prime Minister, he declared his candidacy for the presidential election and founded the New Wave party. During the election, he united with Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, and after the election, he led the merger of New Wave and the Democratic Party.
In the 2022 local elections, he ran for and was elected as the Governor of Gyeonggi-do as a member of the Democratic Party.
He is a budget expert with over 30 years of experience as an economic official. He is a self-made man who rose from a poor background to become Deputy Prime Minister.
