Shin Jai-won is the President and Head of the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Division at Hyundai Motor Company.
He also serves as the CEO of Supernal, an independent urban air mobility company established by Hyundai Motor Group in the United States.
Leading Hyundai Motor Group's advanced air mobility business, he is laying the foundation for the domestic urban air mobility industry.
He was born in July 1959 in Seoul.
He graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and obtained a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the United States.
He joined NASA, where he served as Director of the Aeronautics Research Division at the Glenn Research Center, Deputy Director of the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, and became the first Asian to be appointed as Director of the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate.
He joined Hyundai Motor Group in 2019 as Vice President and Head of the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Division and was later promoted to President.
In 2022, when the UAM Division was upgraded to the AAM Division, his title changed to Head of the AAM Division.
He is a member of the Drone Advisory Committee (DAC) of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a Fellow of both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAS) in the United Kingdom.
