Won Yong-kul is the President of the University of Seoul.
He was born on June 7, 1963, in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
He graduated from Suseong High School and the Department of Economics at Seoul National University.
He obtained a Master's degree in Economics from Seoul National University Graduate School and a Ph.D. in Economics from Indiana University Graduate School in the United States.
After working at the Bank of Korea, he served as a Senior Researcher at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, before being appointed as a professor at Incheon University in 1998.
In 2002, he moved to the Department of Economics at the University of Seoul as a professor.
He has served as the Dean of the College of Politics and Economics, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences, President of the Korea International Finance Association, Vice President of the Korea International Trade Association, and Outside Director and Audit Committee Member of Woori Investment & Securities.
He is currently the President of the Korea International Economic Association.
He is challenging to transform the University of Seoul into a new model of public university in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
